Write for us

We welcome pitches that help readers understand rural places, services, institutions, shared spaces or civic decisions. A strong proposal has a clear subject, a useful question and a specific reason the explanation belongs in Rural News Network.

What makes a good pitch

Send a short outline of the subject, the central point you want to explain and the reader who might find it useful. Tell us what makes the piece distinctive, how you would handle context and what information or examples it would need. Evergreen explainers and well-framed comparisons are welcome when their claims can be supported and their limits made clear.

A careful fit

We are interested in precise, readable work rather than sweeping claims about rural communities. Avoid treating one place as a stand-in for all others, and flag any subject that depends on local rules or specialist judgement. Do not send confidential information or imply that a proposal has been commissioned before we have agreed to it.

Send a proposal

Proposals are sent through the Contact page. Choose the editorial question option and include a brief outline in the message. A proposal is not a promise of publication; any next steps, scope and terms would need to be discussed before work begins.
